Winter sun golfing destinations

The colder weather is on its way, which can mean that inclement weather will begin hampering your game.

However, winter doesn’t have to mean hanging up your golf clubs. Why not think about having a golf holiday abroad in the sunshine? All you’ll have to think about is waking up and deciding how many rounds of golf you want to squeeze in that day and what your tipple of choice will be at the end of the day.

So where is best to go for your sunny golf trip during our winter months?

Barbados

This island is perfect for your golfing trip, with glorious weather all year round. It is especially nice during our winter months when it has between eight and nine hours of sunshine per day. Temperatures normally linger around the mid 20 degrees celsius mark, making your day of golf warm, sweet and heavenly thanks to this Caribbean climate. 2006 saw the World Golf Championship World Cup being held in Barbados, making it only the second Caribbean island to do so.

There are many golf courses for you to enjoy on the island dubbed as “Little England”. Whether you want to play by its infamous white, sandy beaches or closer inland, there is a course here for everyone to enjoy. Check out Sandy Lane which owns three of the best courses on the island.

With gorgeous, luxurious hotels accompanying many of the courses, you truly will be in golf heaven with wonderful spas, delicious cocktails and exquisite food for you to enjoy.

Tenerife and Gran Canaria are well established as a golfer’s winter paradise. With only a short haul flight on average taking four hours, it is the closest and easiest destination to get away for winter sunshine. With temperatures hitting late teens to early twenties everyday and lots of sunshine to bask in, you’ll be reminded of playing golf during the sunny, summer months back in the UK.

There are many courses for you to choose from, including some on top off the cliffs overlooking the rocky sea below and some gorgeous luxury golfing resorts. These courses will provide you with beautiful greens and surroundings for you to enjoy, again with lovely hotel resorts attached to them or nearby.

If you’d like to travel slightly further afield then South Africa has lots to offer in terms of gloriously kept golf courses set amongst stunning scenery. Plus, there is much more to discover in the country too, providing you with an overall wondrous holiday. You could include a safari trip as well as one of the scenic drives exploring this beautiful part of the world. The Garden Route is fast becoming a popular destination to visit in the Southern Hemisphere and the Eight Mountain Pass drives come highly recommended too.

Golf courses in South Africa are spectacular and the courses along the Garden Route are probably some of the best in the country. Play amongst stunning beaches with statuesque mountains standing tall and lining the backdrop. Again, there are many splendid resorts that have lovely golf courses for you to play on. Take your time enjoying the breathtaking views and well manicured greens before you return to the clubhouse for your well earned drink to round off your perfect day.

Being in the Southern Hemisphere means your winter getaway will see you visit the country during its glorious summer. Temperatures normally range from mid to late twenties and occasionally stretch into the early thirties.

Don’t let this winter dampen your golfing game. Go and enjoy some warming winter sunshine and explore some spectacular parts of the world all while you enjoy playing your favourite pastime.
