October Golf News Round Up

October has proved to be a month of many successes for the golfing community, and once again the One Up Golf team has scoured the internet to bring you a round-up of everything you need to know from the world of golf this month.

England’s Florentyna Parker Remains in Contention

Maria Hernandez of Spain maintained her one-shot lead at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France, with Parker, Carlota Ciganda and 16-year-old Swiss amateur Albane Valenzuela in a three-way tie for second place at Golf de Chantaco in St Jean de Luz.

Matlock Ladies Foursomes Scoop Top Accolades at Inter Club Foursomes 2014

The Matlock Ladies foursomes travelled to Mickleover Golf Club to compete in the finals of the County Inter Club Foursomes Competition, where the teams took the Gold and Silver awards. The mens team also won the second division final at Burton Golf Club, rounding off a hat-trick of County Inter Club Foursome triumphs.

Laura Hendrikson Tees Off With Young Mums

Former English Women’s Stroke Play champion Laura Hendrikson is running a six-week programme of free beginners’ golf lessons for young mums in Torbay. Torbay Golf Centre is recognised as one of ten Get into Golf sites across Devon, with the initiative funded by England Golf. Hendrikson hopes the sessions will encourage more women to get involved with golf.

Royal and Ancient Golf Club Votes in Favour of Female Members

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club in St. Andrews has voted to accept women members for the first time in its 260-year history. Over three quarters of its 2,400 global members took part in the ballot, in which 85% voted in favour of the change. The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) said: “This decision is certainly a step in the right direction and one that better captures the current diversity and inclusiveness of our great game.”

Jersey Claim Women’s Golf Inter-Insular After a Win Over Guernsey

Jersey beat Guernsey 17-3 at the Royal Jersey in Grouville to take the victory in the inter-insular competition. It is the second time the women have competed in the event after the inaugural competition in 2012, during which Jersey beat Guernsey on their own turf.

21-year-old Amy Boulden Reflects on First Professional Season

Wales’ Amy Boulden leads the Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year standings after securing a third top five finish. After claiming her first professional title in May at the Association Suisse de Golf Open, Boulden has competed at the US Women’s Open and the British Open. She hopes to continue this successful streak, and has said that all she can do is “play good golf and see where that leads me.”

Notts County Foursomes Titles Decided

Sherwood Forest Golf Club took on north Notts rivals Notts (Hollinwell) Golf Club for the Men’s Interclub Foursome at Stanton on the Wolds GC, where Sherwood’s pairing held onto a two hole advantage to successfully take the title. The mixed final was an exciting game between Norwood Park and Wollaton Park, with the skill of Wollaton Park’s teams proving too much for their rivals.
